Alive Forevermore - Easter 2013

The last and only surviving apostle has been exiled to an island prison where his spirit is beginning to sink. Suddenly he is confronted with a vision of the crucified, resurrected and glorified King Jesus. In his own description Jesus declares: "I am he who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am ALIVE FOREVERMORE. Amen! And I have the keys of Hades and of Death!" Come and join us as we celebrate Jesus Christ-ALIVE FOREVERMORE!

This year for Easter we are having a Good Friday service (Infant - 3 years old childcare provided) on Friday, March 29th at 6:30pm to reflect on the agony of the cross followed by Easter on Sunday, March 31st with the celebration of the resurrection of the Savior! We are encouraging everyone to attend both services.

On Sunday there will be two services at 8:30am and 10:15am with a continental breakfast a half hour before both services.

Easter Schedule:

First Service Breakfast - 8:00am
First Service - 8:30am
Second Service Breakfast - 9:45am
Second Service - 10:15am
No Evening Activities

This year's breakfast is bacon themed. Here are a few things that are planned for the menu:
Bacon quiche
Chocolate dipped bacon
Maple bacon
Pork belly
Bacon biscuits & bacon gravy
Fresh fruit
Cinnamon rolls
Scones
Kid's Table

If you are coming to the breakfast, please come to the one before the service you will be attending. This will help us with parking, space and overall flow.

Parking Information

Due to larger crowds on Easter, we will be shuttling people from the VFW's West Parking Lot at 1309 NE 66th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313. Please see the map below for more details. We want to make parking as easy and simple as possible. If you are visiting Saylorville on Easter Sunday, please park in our main parking lots near the church. We will have many volunteers to help you park and direct you to the breakfast and worship times.

Forgotten God

By: Francis Chan

A follow up to the profound message of Crazy Love, Pastor Francis Chan offers a compelling invitation to understand, embrace, and follow the Holy Spirit’s direction in our lives.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and … the Holy Spirit. We pray in the name of all three, but how often do we live with an awareness of only the first two? As Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send the Holy Spirit—the Helper—so that we could be true and living witnesses for Christ. Unfortunately, today’s church has admired the gift but neglected to open it.
Breakthrough author Francis Chan rips away paper and bows to get at the true source of the church’s power—the Holy Spirit. Chan contends that we’ve ignored the Spirit for far too long, and we are reaping the disastrous results. Thorough scriptural support and compelling narrative form Chan’s invitation to stop and remember the One we’ve forgotten, the Spirit of the living God.

Spirit Rising

By Jim Cymbala

For some of us being a Christian is harder than it should be. Discouraged, anxious, worn down, we wonder what happened to the power and the joy that Jesus promised. Jim Cymbala believes that many of us are missing something vital. Christianity, he says, for even the best-intentioned person or church, is impossible without the Holy Spirit. You can have regular devotions, great preaching, a strong emphasis on the Bible, a great worship team, and a congregation that is trying, but if you aren't vitally in touch with God's Spirit, you are missing out on the life God has for you. The Holy Spirit, he points out, is God's agent on earth. Yet he is the least understood, least preached about, and least discussed member of the Trinity. That is sad, because without him, our spiritual lives will always become dry, mechanical, and a struggle. Too often, the body of Christ is divided into two sides. One side stresses the Word of God, separating itself from what it views as the emotional fanaticism often linked to those emphasizing the Holy Spirit. The other side is sometimes known for drifting into unbiblical manifestations and unorthodox teaching while attributing it all to the Spirit of God. But the Christianity we see in Scripture is both grounded in the Word and full of the Spirit. With stunning stories of how God is working in the lives of people and churches today and biblical teaching about the Holy Spirit, Jim Cymbala invites you to experience God in a fresh and vital way. Nothing else will change our prayer life, our study of God's word, and our worship more than opening our hearts to the Spirit. If we want power, confidence, joy, peace, and more love in our lives, then we need a better understanding of how and why the Spirit moves so we can join him there.
