“All roads lead to Rome” was a literal truth two millennia ago.

In the first century, the Roman Empire controlled the majority of the then-known world. With some overtures to being a tolerant society, Rome governed people’s lives and positions and tastes and opportunities. It was a sophisticated society and also a depraved one. It honored the strong and powerful and pushed out the poor and weak. It was a thinking world but operated on fear and betrayal for power. No matter where you came from, you couldn’t get away from it. All roads led to the great wicked city of Rome, both physically and culturally.

But what about spiritually?  That’s what this great book of Romans is about. The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome about the spiritual road that was in front of them. He pushed those people to examine their beliefs just like he pushes us: Will we stay on the spiritual road away from God that leads to death, much like heading to the wicked city of Rome? Or will we acknowledge our helplessness and accept God’s free gift of salvation in Jesus, to live by faith?

Our 8-week study in the first 11 chapters of Romans will explore Paul’s deep theological truths on justification, sanctification, original sin, the workings of the Holy Spirit, God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility and much more. If some of those terms are not familiar or clear, don’t worry. Paul forces us to examine them in our study!

We will meet weekly on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings (childcare provided) starting the week of March 23rd. We will meet downstairs in the Student Center.
