The Disaster Relief Ministry is a newcomer to Heart for Des Moines this year. Right now we have over 80 volunteers who have signed up to help when a disaster strikes. So what does volunteering for this ministry look like? That all depends on the need. We could be doing anything from tarping roofs, felling trees, cutting up downed trees, limbs, brush, etc., picking up debris, serving food and drinks to those out in the field working, supplying gift cards to impacted families, the list could go on and on. This does require flexibility and patience as needs can change day to day after a disaster. This ministry is a great way to get out and share the love of Jesus with people, even if it’s something as simple as being an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. It is a great way to use the blessings God has given us so that we might be a blessing to others.
