“For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me…‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” (Matthew 25:35-36, 40)
Heart for Des Moines is about showing and sharing God’s heart for the Des Moines metro by rolling up our sleeves and engaging deeply in our local community. We will extend Gospel-centered mercy by moving into the lives of those who need it most.
Each season, Saylorville individuals, families, and groups join teams serving alongside each of our partner organizations. Each Heart For Des Moines team is led by Saylorville members.
Check out our partners below, join a team to volunteer, donate items from a list of tangible needs, or give financially to the Saylorville Heart For Des Moines Fund (click the “give” link then select “heart for Des Moines”).
The Saylorville Community Closet is a central way for our members to give generously of their resources to help people in need throughout the greater Des Moines area. Each of the organizations we are partnering with have a constant need for various supplies to assist them in coming alongside the people they are supporting. Check here for an updated list of needs.
If you have a heart for giving, this ministry is for you. If you volunteer for this ministry, you will be assisting with sorting, organizing and distributing donations that come in, as well as maintaining a current list of needs among the organizations we are supporting.
The Saylorville Foster Care Team provides respite, resources and support to parents, caregivers and potential guardians of foster children. If you have a heart for coming alongside families who have been called to foster care, this ministry is also for you. If you volunteer for this ministry, you will have the opportunity to provide support for foster families, including filling tangible needs or providing meals for families who have said yes to foster children.
